What Happened:
A moving truck caught on to some low overhead wires, pulled down four poles. One of the poles went thru the side of a rental property I own. This property is a twin single with old style aluminum siding that cannot be matched. My insurance co. is willing to replace the one side effected but will do nothing more about the mis match. I have replacement coverage. They have sent me a check for about $1500 including roof damage and drywall work. The lowest bid for the exterior only repair and replacement of siding with vinyl, for the building is > $7000. I now have a hole in the livingroom, a tarp on the roof and a very upset tenant. What can I do ???
:wall: Thanks for the input but here is how it comes down:
Yes, I did get all of the info on the truck. They claim that the wires were too low. The right of way is 14' 6". Sprint (the lower wires) accepted my claim but are slow to move. The power co. replaced the poles but claim they belong to Sprint. Interesting enough, the same wires were pulled down ten years prior without the poles being damaged. I will give my insurance co. one more try then I guess I need contact legal help. It is a shame that I have to spend $ on something other than repairs. :why_this:

Did you get the information for this moving truck? Their insurance etc. etc. file a police report on the accident? etc etc
If not your insurance company is NOT taking care you at all! They should be taking care of all the expenses less deductible etc. I would speak with them again demand answers etc. and if not speak with a attorney. Watch out make sure you DO NOT sign anything with regards to the claim being paid and settled!
Sounds like a small insurance company??? Had rentals and insurance with State F and they took care of alot of stuff and paid everything (had alot of claims and was dropped but they took care of it all)

You shouldn't even be messing with YOUR insurance company. Your LAWYER, and probably the District Attorney, should be going after the MOVING COMPANY. Commercial vehicles have to carry insurance.

Like frank said your insurance should not have to pay anything unless you didn't get any info on the moving truck. If not you will be working with your homeowners insurance, which I assume you didn't get any info on the truck otherwise your insurance company wouldn't have paid anything as they did and would persue the other insurance company.

Contact the police and get a report from them. They should have all the information you need about the moving company. I agree with Slidell, you shouldn't have to deal with this. Your insurance provider should be helping you out. The moving company should have at least $1million in liability coverage. Plus, they should be paying to relocate your tenants and paying you for lost rent income.
