One of the members likes to coat ext wood with thinned down motor oil. Oil can be a good protectent. Ever notice how water beads on oil or gas spills? The thing that worries me about using any type of mechanical oil is there are no driers added and under the right conditions I believe it could stain unwanted items.
A pressure washer can take stain off but depending on the stain and how it is bonded to the wood it is possible to damage the wood in the process.

And the thing that would worry me is that are creating a BOMB!! If that deck ever caught fire, how would you put it out??

Aside from that, how would you walk on it when it's wet? If would be slicker than an ice skating rink.

Fire issue is a major one, don't put a grill or bbq on the deck, that would not be good at all. Also, if one drop of that oil hits the ground and you have a "do good" neighbor, they could make your life hell for using oil in a way it wasn't meant to be used.

As far as slippery, my dog knocked over a 1/4gal of bar oil for my chainsaw, it ran down the wood ramp to my shed. Needless to say it beaded water for about 8 years where the oil soaked into the wood. But stepping on it was like hitting wet ice with sneakers on.
