I like to blend my own stain. Now I face a dilemma. How to store the custom blended stain.
Old butter tubs just doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

If you don't have an old paint can [that still seals] lying aroung you can use a jar.

or you could buy a "new" empty paint can from your local
paint store. glass will work, just that it will break as well.

I make most of my stains also, and use new paint cans from a local paint store.
Taking a deep breath and breathing into the can just before you seal it will help remove some of the oxygen content and help keep the stain from 'skimming over'.

Taking a deep breath and breathing into the can
did you mean to say "exhaling" into the can??? or do you really mean to "inhale"?

Exhaled air has less oxygen in it and would therefore be less reactive with the stain. I'm sure George meant to say "exhale."

Someone, maybe Rockler, sells aerosol cans(kits, valve, etc) of nitrogen, designed to feed into a paint can, etc, to prolong the storage life. But a bit pricey to be cost effective.
Home Depot sells quart, pint size metal paint cans that are ideal for long term storage.
