View Full Version : rust stain on tile
Hello. Might anyone there know how I can remove rust from a wet metal can being placed on glossy ceramic tile?
Thank you for any response.

Try a poultice using Iron Out or Household Bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide. Iron Out is a common hardware store product. Make the poultice using Whiting [calcium carbonate] (available at paint stores) or Talc [unscented baby powder] or Diatomaceous Earth [fossil flour] (available at ceramics supply stores) plus one of the fluids.
Apply to the ring mark, cover with plastic warp then seal the plastic wrap with tape. Wait until the poultice is completely dry, (1 - 3 days) remove and repeat if necessary. This process cannot be rushed. The poultice should be completely dry before removal, and the process repeated if necessary.
Bruce:
I'd go to a ceramic tiling store and get some phosphoric acid based grout cleaner and use that on the rust. That shouldn't harm the tile, but it might not be strong enough to dissolve the rust.
I know CLR will dissolve the rust, but it might etch the surface of the tile. Maybe try it in an inconspicuous spot or buy a similar tile to experiment on.
