If I only have a few rotten boards on my roof along the edge of my roof line, do I need to remove all shingles or is it ok to just pull back a few rows?
hi
you could remove about 5 rows to give you room to work.
if it's only the edge thats rotten
it it was me i would go higher and place a ice and watershield paper on top of the board
good luck
The ice & snow shield is a good idea and a must if you are in cold country. Since the overhangs are outside of the house, it stays cold allowing ice and snow build-up to remain. Meanwhile, the rest of the roof that is over the house warms from the attic and the melting snow runs down to the overhang and backs up behind the ice/snow build up. Water then can run sideways or back up under the shingles. This water then can get undr the shingles causing wood rot or leaks. It may solve the problem that caused the wood rot. You will want to check for a color match of the existing roof if you are not able to reuse the shingles. Manufacturers change color runs like I change socks.
