In one of the rooms in our 1959 beach cottage, they appear to have remodeled and placed a wall board of some kind up, instead of sheetrock. I am trying to figure out what the board is called, as it seems like an alternative to sheetrock that I would like to use in other interior rooms.
The board is about 1/4 inch thick, white and feels very much like thin wood or maybe heavy cardboard? It is in panels (not sure if they were cut to fit or not) that is about 36 inches wide and full 8 feet tall.
The boards (paneling?) were nailed to the wall studs and then had nice molding/trim nailed over the seams. I like the look and what appears to be simplicity of using this method of redoing the walls in other rooms.
Any ideas what the name of the stuff I am dealing with might be? I really don't want to have to rip out a piece to take to the store with me to find out.
Thanks,
RhainyC

It might be masonite paneling.

Right. It's 1/4 inch paneling. Can find it at any lumber yard. Anything wrong with it or do you just want to know what it is?

I want to be able to use it in other rooms, rather than sheetrock. It appears to be easier to deal with and I like the look of the molding used as trim between the seams.
Thanks for the heads up on the name, now I know what to look for when I go shopping. :)
