I recently had my beautiful screened-in porch painted and re-screened. The old metal screen was discolored but had no tears or holes - it was tough stuff. The new metal screening is terribly light and already has two tears. My contractor said that "the good old screen" can no longer be purchased. Is that true?

Sounds like a line to me. How long has it been? I recently had a new porch built and finished about month or so ago. No tears in my screen. Also, a neighbor of mine had his porch for a couple years now and he hasn't gotten it rescreened yet.

I would like to know where a person could get a higher grade/quality screen than what is available at Home Depot or Lowes (which is what I have now)

Get out of the big box stores -- go to a glass shop!

Pet screen; sun screen -- either will work better than what you have now.

Try a mosquito curtain. Without the faming, it is less likely to tear and it is a whole lot cheaper.
