I am strongly considering laying some plywood over my tired looking deck and placing outdoor carpeting over it. Any suggestions, do's or dont's, or advice would be greatly appreciated. This is in Western NY so weather may be a factor. Thanks!

I am thinkinng of the same thing, but plan to apply a latex primer and a couple of coats of paint over the deck boards.
Why do you want to add the plywood?

WHY??
Weather WILL be a factor, and it'll rot in about 5 years. Why waste your money?
Concider a composite or vinyl deck. You'll pay a bit more up front, but it'll last about 10 times as long!!

Plywood over your deck plus outdoor carpet will not last all that long. There is no way for the deck board to dry out and they will rot.
And are you painting your boards and then trying to glue down carpeting? That might be a fun challenge.

I figured the plywood would create a smooth surface, so the carpet would lay flat, and not contour to the gaps between the planks. I figured it might kind of rot quickly or have some sort of consequences, and based on your posts that seems to be true. This board is great. I think i may just take the time to strip it and re-stain it. Thanks!
