Just put up my first drywall ceiling. Looks good, but now comes mudding and taping. The instructions on the bucket of mud say to "fill seams with mud, then put tape over it". Should I first put mud in the seams, then let it dry, THEN cover with tape? What's the correct order? I can't image putting the tape over wet mud...
Thanks,

If there are any big gaps - prefill them with mud and let dry. Basically when taping you are applying the mud over the seam which 'glues' the tape to the rock. Be sure to rake off any excess. After it dries you are ready for the next coat. 3 coats are normally required.

Thanks, marksr. Three coats, eh? Shoot - I was hoping to get by with one and a half!!
So, let me get this straight: I fill big gaps and let dry, then cover that dried mud with tape, and mud again? Should I sand down the dried mud every time, or can I throw wet mud right over the dried spots?

You apply the tape to wet mud pressing it to the rock and removing excess with a broad knife. Depending on how well you dress the joints will determine if sanding is needed between coats.
