I have what I believe is called a "bathtub patio", meaning the patio is on a down slope on three sides and on the fourth the house. Water drains from three sides. What I want to do is lay brick using the dry method, gravel, sand, etc. Presently I have a poorly laid concrete patio that is broken up in many places, and in which water accumulates. I have two questions. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and I need to know if I can use this method to lay brick here. Also, if I can use this, can I use it if I have to slope to a drain (approximately in the middle of the patio) I am concerned that the sand would wash away in the drain. The present drain has a square lip around it.
