I have white glossy tile on my kitchen floor it now has scratches in the high traffic areas when I clean the tiles they till look dirty. Can you tell me how has I rid my ceramic tiles of these scratches? Do I buff with a commerical buffer? or do I have to replace my tiles. I was told I need a matt finish not a glossy finish is this correct?

You will probably have to replace them to get rid of the scratches. I know of no product for buffing scratches out of ceramic tile. The matte finish will show less imperfections and scratches than a glossy finish.

Sometimes we remove some scratches from ceramic tile.
What we do is mix up a little bit of grout, it must be the same color as the grout on the floor, and it must be sanded grout.
Then buff the scratches with your thumb using the grout as an abrasive or you can use a scrub pad instead of your thumb, the key is use the grout as an abrasive.
Good Luck www.askthetileman.com (http://www.askthetileman.com)

Might as well use sandpaper askthetileman.com!

The truth is you cannot remove the scratches in glossy tile. If fact, it is recommended not to use glossy finish tiles on a floor. Not just because they scratch easy but also because they are a slip hazard.

I say use a floor wax if you simply want to hide the scatches or replace them as the moderator suggested.

Good Luck :)

The truth is froggyman has probably never set foot on a tile job in his life.
Do not use floor wax on ceramic tile.
You sometimes,I repeat sometimes can remove scratches from ceramic tile,we didn't say shiney tile,we said ceramic tile.It has been done!!!

Froggyman seems to have a problem with us responding to questions. He seems to think he is the internet police. He causes problems like this in other forums.

Good luck with the scratches.

Hey froggy, guess where we're going now!!!!

Sounds like somebody is upset...I wonder who that could be?

Hmmmm....

He must have been real mad because he did not spell many words correctly.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to police this board. I simply wanted to prevent people from scratching their glossy (or matte finish for that matter) tile. I don't think anybody is dumb enough to actually do it but apparently there are people who will suggest it.

Don't Worry...Be Happy :)

No stress here froggy.
There must be a lot of high gloss floors out there that are not grouted,or the ones that are grouted must be filled with scratches.
Because froggy says grout scratches tile.
Hey, now you're an english teacher.

Since you know so much about the ceramic tile industry, why don't ever answer the question? Instead you just forward them to a website.

Boy I must have really pissed you off "askthetileman.com in Ft. Lauderdale" but once again you are hurting yourself and your company name.

For instructions related to floor care visit:

You asked me to guess where you were going? I'm guessing "Tile School".
