I would like to remove ceramic tile from my concrete slab. I heard that there were heating devices that I could use to heat the floor up and then scrape the tiles quickly and easily without the PAIN of breaking each one up. Is this too good to be true and what are your recommendations?

Heat works on vinyl and related tile but not for ceramic tile. The fastest way is with a chipping hammer. This would be a rental item for most people. The motor portion looks something like an enlarged version of a drill motor. The tool holder will accommodate different width chisel bits (typically 2 1/2" for tile). Operation is simple: with the bit in the holder and the lever turned to the "hammer position" aim and pull the trigger. Very rapid blows will dislodge the tile quickly. The hard way: break the tile with a sledge hammer, then hand scrape with a floor scraper. In either case wear eye protection.
