Is there any way to correct an oversanded veneer in a small area about the size of a dime?

What I have done:
Stain the entire area - Apply a coat of sealer -this brings out the true colors of the entire piece, including the 'boo-boo'.
Use artist oil colors to paint in both the background color and the grain. Allow to dry thoroughly - finish with the coating of your choice.
