Hello, we have a cottage that is all dark panelling, to brighten it up, we are considering wallpapering over the panelling and then painting, it is a 3 season cottage, so it is not heated in the winter months, it gets quite cold here in ontario, canada, will the wallpaper stand up to the cold, i am afraid of it lifting off the walls, thanks for any advice, Carole

by wallpaper, do you mean liner or bridging material? because painting wallpaper is never a good idea. the moisture from the paint can cause the paper to lift off.

you might be better off filling the grooves with joint compound or something and then painting over that. or just paint over the paneling and leave the grooves - personally i like the grooves. it's sort of a beadboard effect.

Village puts out a product called PaperIllusion and it works great over paneling. It's a faux finish paper that you tear, dip in water and apply to a primed wall. If the grooves are small enough (less than a 1/2") then you don't need to fill in the grooves, the paper illusions product "bridges the gap". As long as you prep the walls properly, the moisture and temperature should not be a problem.
