I am looking to put a fence around the back yard of my new home. I am only allowed to use non-industrial looking materials. So, no gray or the like. What other colors are available in chainlink fencing? What is a typical mark up for the "colored" fencing?
Is there a sight that I could go to that I could then see the colors and show my wife?
Thanks!

Check with whomever governs the type of fence that you can install about chainlink fencing. It tends not to be allowed in neighborhoods that have convenants that dictate the type of fencing used.

I am allowed chain link fencing, just not industrial/gray.
So do it in black, white, green, or any other color than just galvanized gray.
Cost?? Go ask a local fencing supplier.

Dan-
I don't know typical markup for colored fencing, but I can tell you our local fence guys carry green, brown and black. Also, my quote from them just today was almost $15/foot. I think I'll be doing this myself. I had one installed at my old house about 3 years ago for just over $7/foot. Don't know if the cost of living is that much different or what, but I won't be paying $15/foot. And this was for black - apparently there is even a higher markup for brown.
Hope this helps. I'm looking for a site now - if I find a good one, I'll post it here.

Rick,
Thanks for the info, that is helpful. Where are you at? I am in West Michigan a scosh north of Grand Rapids. I am asking due to curiousity as to whether your cost of living might be higher than my cost of living.
I would appreciate the websight if and when you find one.
Thanks again!

Dan-
I now live on the coast of North Carolina. I'm not sure how that compares with Michigan so you may have to try to figure that out. I checked these 2 websites out today:
http://www.hooverfence.com/ - this one has good instructions on how to install a fence yourself if so inclined. It also has a catalog from which you can buy the materials. But it seemed high to me.
http://www.fenceonline.com/ - this one even has a budgetary estimator on it. It allows you to put in the details for your project and gives you a budget estimate for it to be installed.
Now take them with a grain of salt - both seemed high to me. The second one gave me a price of just over $3K - almost $24/foot! On the first one, price of the fence and gates alone was more than my estimate I got today for parts and labor. So in light of all this, I may be calling the fence company very soon to place my order. I was going to check my local Lowe's or Home Depot, but they don't carry the colored chain link fence.
Good luck to you in your search.

Thanks, and good luck to you, too.
$7/ft.three years ago, $15/ft. now -- THAT'S what's happened to the price of steel, aluminum, diesel, housing, and several other things in the past year or two or three. The only way to compare the price of galvanized chain link and colored is to get the price difference for the two TODAY!
