Hi guys!

This is a very nice forum, im surprised with the good answers ive seen here.

In short, its the usual poor college student routine...however, weekly my buddies and gf go garbage picking. weve got quite a hall every bulk day.

For my room, about 9 months ago i picked up a magnavox 27" stereo TV. we always test everything out in the garage for a LONG time until we dare bring it in.

The TV has GREAT sound, a REALLY sharp picture, amazing contrast..cant figure out why anyone threw it out.

EXCEPT, theres a noisy crackling sound..sounds like something grinding or almost like rain. ive had the TV on for HOURS and no issues.

I only post, because i read some of these "simple" problems could actually be fire hazardous, and i DONT want that to happen.

If its an easy fix thatd be awesome. If not, oh well, nothings perfect. if its a hazzard, well ill be posting about a zenith i picked up lol. I can solder, i CAN use a multimeter and a voltage detector.

EDIT: Forgot the important stuff, its a 1993 TV, the crackling doesnt come and go, its there the minute it is on...it isnt affected by temperature, the screen doesnt flicker or anything. When i turn it off, if it hasnt been on long, i get the RGB circle in the center for a second. however, if its been o n a long time, it shuts off like a new TV, collapses in the middle. Also, if i use the AUDIO IN, when using a stereo input (N64, VCR, PS2) it doesnt show up as stereo (the little light doesnt come on) and i only get the right speaker. However, on air channels, itll come in stereo no problem.

i dunno if that last bit is related, thought id just add it though

Maybe the previous owner spilled some Rice Crispies in it. A good vacuuming should fix it right up. Seriously folks - If the noise is coming thru the speakers, I doubt that is poses any serious hazard. If it is coming from inside the case, it could be voltage arcing and could pose a shock hazard to anyone touching a metal part. Take a vacuum cleaner and blow the dust out of it. It could just be static electricity running around in there.
