I've just painted my livinig room/dining room a medium yellow and the kitchen is a medium shade of orange (sort of honeydew melon). My problem is that I'm not sure what colour to paint the hallway that will coordinate with/compliment both these colours. The floors are a dark walnut stained hardwood. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any intensity of yellow-orange would be perfect for the hallway. Yellow. yellow-orange and orange are considered related because they all contain yellow. They are associated with the sun and fire. These colors give sensation of warmth and compliment each other. Therefore, you'll be able to develop attractive analogous scheme.

to create a cohesive sense of flow, paint the hallway the same as whatever room it comes off of. or, if you want to separate it & have it be a different/accent color, go lighter or darker than one of those other rooms (yellow/orange). or introduce a third color, more into the red tones, which would still be analogous (yellow/orange/red). just remember that it's usually better to have a hallway be fairly neutral so that all the rooms that open from it blend nicely. (personally, i'd probably go with a gold tone).
