I would like to have a vanity top made from plywood that would have a 3" apron to simulate a slab of stone. I would like to mount a vessel sink on top of it. Is there any substance I can cover the wood with, where I could stain it and then either matte urethane it or wax it to simulate cast concrete or stone? Anything that won't crack off the wood, or be damaged by water? I'm trying to do a poor woman's concrete top ;-). Thanks!

How about PaperIllusion by Village. It's a unique kind of faux finish wallpaper that you rip into peices, dip into water and apply to any clean, dry flat surface. I've heard of people using it to cover kitchen counters and they love it. I haven't done this myself, but I have used the product on the wall and in making craft projects. There's a marble stone and marble earth finish available among others. It's worth checking into.

Let me know if you decide to do this...I'd love to hear how it turns out. ;)
