i have a well that has not been used for sometime. i would like to restart it but it does not seem that it filling up with water. i have talked to well people in the area that have said to get a 2" gas powered pump suck the water out and pump it back in. this will stir everything up and maybe open the veins up again. does this make sense? any help would be greatly apprieicated.

right now the water level is about 2 feet but i am not sure how big the well is at the bottom. you can see that i opens up into a pool at the bottom. i was planning on putting more water in it to run the pump.

I have never heard of a well 'opening up into a pool'. Are you sure you don't have a water cistern that needs to be refilled?

not sure everyone had wells until city water was installed about 30 yrs ago. if it were a cistern that need to be filled i would think that it would have something to fill it up such as the down spouts or something and the only pipes running into it is the pump pipe from the house to the bottom of the well.

Not all cisterns refill from the gutters. Many just have a cover you open and the truck dumps water in. Some only have a large pipe sticking out of the ground to fill from.

What kind of pump do you have, where is it in relation to this well and what do you mean by: i would like to restart it but it does not seem that it filling up with water. ?

There is no large pipe sticking out of the ground. There is only a concrete lid that is about 2 feet around that I can remove and look down into it to see the water. I have pumped water out of the well but it has not seemed to put any water back in. I just dropped some 2 inch pipe down in with a foot valve and attached it to a jet pump and pumped out some of the water to see if it would refill. Local well people have told me that it just may need to be stirred up to remove some of the sediment and open the veins up to get it going again. The pump that used to be attached to the well was in the basement as the pipe from well is still coming in the wall from the well. This is the same as my neighbor but he does not use his anymore. Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
