We are buying a new house and trying to decide what kind of floors to put in. We have 2 small bouys (3 and 1) and want to get a dog and cat as soon as we move in. Probably a cocker spaniel or beagle.
Anyway, we are either going to tile the kitchen, family room and all areas except formal dining and living which would be carpeted or wood laminate the entire downstairs.
Our concerns are the following:
with the tile: will the grout stain? How much will sealer help? Do we have to mop daily? general care and upkeep issues ...
with the laminate: Will the dog scratch the floor? How bad? Is it durable?
Also, how do they compare as a DIY project?
