My wife has asked me to look into installing a sail shade over our back porch. Does anyone have any suggestions or websites that could detail the pros and cons as well as loads for these products?
She is really into the look and they seem to be easier then installing an arbor or some other type of covering.
Thanks

"Sail shade" -- I have no clue what you are talking about.
Retractable awning, with Sunbrella canvas??

It's an awning that is held in place by tension wires. The material is made from sail cloth. Obvoiusly not a year round option for my area, I was intrested in wind loads and if anyone had any experince and reccomendations in fabric and hardware selection.
Thanks

I hate to say the obvious but a quick Google search for "shade sail" turned up a lot of information. I've also seen several shade sails in the type of catalog you often find in the back of airline seats.
As for suggestions. I don't have one, but I have spent many years sailing so I can say DO IT RIGHT. A freak summer thunderstorm can produce some heavy winds and a quality sail, properly anchored will be worth the effort and expense.

Our neighbors cheap sun shade lasted a week and a half before a thunderstorm totally mangled the cheap Wally World frame. It was just lucky that it not damage their home as it committed suicide.

This "sail shade" sounds like about the same thing I was looking at at OSH a few months back. (The customer wanted one to span her 18' round above ground pool.) Tension wires about 4' apart, and the 4' X 20' canvas panels stretch out across them. I'll do her deck if she calls me back, but NO WAY will I touch the "shade structure"!!
