My husband and I are building a new house and trying to decide on colors for the kids bathroom. I already have a 9 year old daughter but will probably have another child in the next year or so. Not knowing if we'll have a boy or a girl, we are looking for colors that will be neutral enough so that the bathroom colors could be for either. I've looked at one bathroom collection at a store that has red, orange and yellow in the shower curtain...would this would for both boys and girls? Help!!! :)

by "kids bathroom", do you mean a Jack-and-Jill bathroom? or maybe a bathroom that ONLY the kids will be using?

or is this a "hall bathroom" that your adult company will use, too?

This bathroom will only be used by kids...and then any potential guest that stay with us.

i think the red/orange/yellow combo would be fine for either boys or girls. but what's the pattern??? just random shapes or something identifiable?

there are lots of different fun themes that would be good for either sex kids - rubber duckies, underwater sea, nautical, or just different bright solid colors - whatever you choose now, by the time the youngest one is old enough to appreciate the decor, you'll be wanting/needing to change it out anyway, probably! so i'd forego any wallpaper & just paint, so you can change it out easier later.

you're definitely going about it the right way  - choosing the shower curtain & accessories first & going from there (as opposed to painting the walls a certain color & then trying to find the accessories to match).

The shower curtain and set I've seen have orange, red and yellow stripes. It's actually very nice looking. My 9-year old said she refuses to have any animal themes (dogs, cats, ducks, etc.) in her bathroom...so I think I'm going to stick with just the brighter fun colors.

Thanks so much for your input.

that sounds great! a generic theme, very gender neutral, but very colorful & fun. you can add any kind of whimsical touches like artwork, or funky towels or the toothbrush holder, etc. in almost any style and it'll be really cute. or just mix & match the solid colors. do these colors play off of the decor in her room? it'd be nice if it sort of transitioned from something. if her room is pastel pink & lavendar, it might not be as good as if her room were also done in brights - ?
