Marine: Boating, Sailing, PWC, GPS and Navigation - yamaha prop slipping

I have a 1990 40 hp yamaha and the prop seems to be slipping while turning sharp or if I trim it too high. Can the rubber insert be changed by a prop shop or is the prop finished?
Another question: I believe the size is 11 1/4 x 14, does that sound right? I just checked on ebay for props and found a bunch of props in that range but not those exact numbers (the numbers are hard to read).

Sounds more like cavitation, the prop is not staying totally immersed.

I think that your prop diameter should be in your service/owner's manual.

Thanks Joe but I don't think it's cavitation. It would even "slip" while gunning it to plane (while everything is still low). I also know that this started a couple of years ago just after trying to go through a very thick weed section of a river. I tried to use to much force and it started to slip. I'd remove the prop for a couple of weeks and it be better.
I have a spare which does not do this, so this would lead me to believe it is "slipping". The spare is not the ideal prop for my boat so I would like to get this one going again.
I'm passing by my camp this morning and I'll pick up the prop and see if I can confirm the numbers in better light at home.
I'll check out the Bombardier site as well.
Does anyone know of a site where I can see all the different prop sizes that'll fit my 40 hp yamaha?

The following site lists the props available for your motor (and others) - you seem to have a 11.25" diameter with 14" pitch - as much as I can recall about my troubles with this problem the prop should be replaced could give out completely 25 mi from the harbor...

I talked to a prop guy today and he claims he can fix it by putting a new rubber insert in. He said it will be as good as new and have the price (or less) of a new one. Anyone out there ever had that done and if so does it work?

for only $62 I would buy a new one, and also repair the old one to be as a carried spare.

I just checked the prop size on my 40hp Johnson - the one on the boat is 10.5x12 and the spare is 10 3/8/ 12 The 10.5 x12 performed well, with 2 adults and 3 12 year olds in a 15' aluminum runabout. Here is a page with 12"pitch props and lesser diameter

Yours with a 11.25" diameter and a 14" pitch is perhaps more suited for a 60 hp Yamaha (they are interchangeable) since it would require more power to rotate and is on that seemingly higher hp end of the choices available.

These prop shops are suspicious to me since someone cut away so much of a battered prop that it was rendered useless and he charged the same as for a new one. He of course insisted it was just fine , but engine rpm was far too high due to lowered resistance so I threw it away. The only good prop is a new one.
