We noticed about two days ago ( how long it was actually leaking is unknown, not more than a week though) water all around the base of our furnace. I figured it was the humidifier so I shut it off, the problem continued so I came on here. I figured out our drain pipe must be clogged, and I need to shopvac it out. We need to cut a cpvc pipe to do so, so I was going to wait until morning until I could get to the store to get new fittings and pipe. To stop the water flow we turned the ac off. Then once our house reached about 95 degrees we threw a whole bunch of towels around the furnace and turned it back on. It won't run though, and it was running up until we turned it off. It doesn't try to turn on or anything, and our thermostat says cool 74 degrees. Could the water have damaged something, or does it have some sort of automatic shutoff where it won't start until the pipe is unclogged. Anyone with any insight please help and please try to be specific and detailed, I'm new at airconditioning problems. thank you

It is possible something got wet that shouldn't have & shorted out. Another silly thought but possible is are you sure the switch on the furnace is turned on?

its definetly on. It just won't do anything. If something shorted out what would it be, or what should I look for. When I open the main panel for the furnace nothing in there is wet, its just coming down the back from the drain pipe and only the metal casing is wet. Would there be some wiring up where I cannot see that may have gotten wet.

If this is a gas furnace, make sure the blower door is closed tightly. There is usually a switch which has to be closed by the blower compartment door. There might also be a small automotive type fuse, usually 3 or 5 amp, on a circuit board. Try setting the thermostat for fan on. Post back with results.

I had the blower panel off, to watch and see the water flow when it runs.. thank you so much for the easy fix, what a relief... Air conditioning is running, thank the lord!

Glad it was a simple fix. Sometimes its just that easy. That switch is a safety device to keep someone from getting a hand caught in the fan & to prevent exhaust products from being drawn into the house.
