I have a painted/flat textured bathroom wall to prepare for paper. I'm seeking advise on how to prepare ( smooth it ) and what to use. I was thinking a thin layer of joint compound and then sanding. Any suggestions?
Thanks

that's what i've done on several occasions with great results. buy a tub of premixed joint compound & use a 6" broad knife or a flat trowel. skimcoat the wall, let it dry, then "sand" it with a sponge that you've complete wrung out (use a light touch or you'll wash it all off! much less dust this way than with actual sandpaper). then you'll probably need to do at least one more coat. let dry. repeat the sponge-sanding. then when you're happy with the smoothness, prime it with a wallpaper primer before hanging your paper (and have it tinted close to the background color of your paper - then any gaps in your seams won't show up as much!).
