Hello all......I live in New York and own an 80 year old home, which is 1300+ sq. ft, can't afford to do central a/c and put air conditioners (energy star) in the 3 bedrooms upstairs...2 a/cs are 8,000 btus and the 3rd one is 6,000 btus...I let the bedrooms cool and then open the doors to allow the cool air to cool down stairs..which is open (livingroom - diningroom - kitchen - sunroom - foyer) of course I close all exterior doors and windows...my question is am I overworking the a/cs......they do a fantastic job of keeping the whole house cool....started doing this a week ago...so I have not received my electric bill yet.

It shouldn't hurt them at all to run like this. Can you out any down stairs?

I can....we had always put a/cs in the upstair rooms because it was hotter upstairs....so now that i know i am not overworking the a/cs by running them at one time.........what size should I get for the main floor....the only room I am looking at placing it - would be the sunroom....(I don't want one in the livingroom b/c all the windows face the front)...(my house was updated with 220 wiring...so I guess a 4th a/c won't hurt if I am running them at one time..? depending on the btus....? thanks again for your help.
