Hi there. I looked thru a lot of threads on this board to see if my problem was covered, and I couldn't really find an exact answer. First off, I have a 14x70 trailer house with a Nordyne central AC unit outside. As far as the model I don't know, as it's faded. The unit does not look old however. The little copper line is warm, and the big one is cold, but not wet. The big one is wrapped in a black foamy looking material. I just replaced the filters today, and the old ones were kinda dust covered, but not extremely bad. Changed them anyways.

The air coming out of the vents is cold, but yet the house is at 90 degrees. It is set for 75. Outside temp is 90 with 48% humidity. At night it cools down just fine to 76 degrees, but then during the day it gets hot inside. Not as bad as without the AC running, but certainly not 75 either. I have an electronic termostat with different settings for different times of day (for simplicity, they are all the same...).

At one end of the house, there is a much stronger airflow than the other, but all the vents have a decent amount of cold air coming out.

When I first started the AC a month ago, I had to "kickstart" it as the fan wouldn't start. I took off the cover and knocked my flashlight on the relay, which was buzzing. After this it has worked fine however. Last year I didn't use AC at all because it wasn't that hot. I did turn it off again after a day and a half, when I saw I had used 120KW in 18 hours. Usually we use 600 a month...could there be something wrong since it uses so much?

Is this normal behavior for AC or could there be a problem?

Thanks in advance.

The ductwork in mobile homes leaves much to be desired. You might want to take a crawl under the home to see if it is really cool under there. If it is, there is a good chance you have some fairly significant duct leakage. Open the bottom panel on the indoor unit & check the coil to be sure it is clean.

Where would the coil be? On the furnace fan? Or is there something else?
