I am trying to install a deadbolt in a metal door. The problem I am having is that where the bolt comes out of the door and the strike plate is to be attached I don't know how to attach the plate. Normally in wood doors you chissel an area so it sits flush but if I cut that part out there will be nothing to screw the screws into. Help.........

Hi CaptEllie,
What is the brand of the Deadbolt? Available through Locksmiths, and even the big box stores, you can get "Drive-in" bolts. No chiseling, no screws, and no plate to worry about. The brands that offer them are Schlage, Kwikset, and a few others. You may actually may already have one. Look at the back of the plate on the bolt. Does it have two notches that allow it to be taken off? If it does, use a small flatblade screwdriver to pop the faceplate off. (From the corners.) From here you will see how it stayes together. If there are NO NOTCHES, do not take the bolt apart. This will send you back to the store to get another one. Good luck with the deadbolt. Let me know how it turns out.
