I want to purchase a very simple & basic dvd recorder/vcr combo.. I have researched many models finding out the good & bad reviews & comments.
I never realized that all blank disc don't work in all recorders.

I would appreciate all suggestions on what recorders might best suit me in the price range of around $ 220.00 ..

I am concerned about all blank disc not working in all machines..

Please suggest some machines for me to check on..

What stabilizer would work o.k. for dvd copying?
Just simple basic stabilizer.

Your research didn't tell you which models record what type of discs?

I believe the Sonys will record all types of discs. But you will pay more than $220. I know Panasonics will not record on all media types.
But whats the big deal? Almost all new players, even the $30 el cheapos, will play all types of discs.

I will not recommend any device to circumvent copyright protection.

Sorry, but all research I've ever done has always told me what types of discs the machine will use. I'm suprised your research did not supply such info.

I related what I knew about the Sony and Panasonic models.
Still curious as to why you're so concerned about DVD+R vs DVD-R discs.
There seems to be underlying confusion or perhaps another question behind it.

And I still will not recommend anything to circumvent copy protection.

I would strongly suggest you keep YOUR atttitude's at home.
No ill will was meant I'm sure.

coldbeer,

I recently purchased a dvd burner and because dvd+r disks have a faster write time bought a supply with the burner.
Then when looking to purchase a player to view burned disks found that more mfr's offered dvd-r only than +r.
BobF is right. I found that Sony offered the largest variety on what a machine would play.
Also, the bonus in purchasing a combo unit was I could get rid of a large bundle of cables and a switcher.

What I wound up with. (http://www.epinions.com/pr-Sony_Sony_DVD_VHS_Combination_Unit-SLV-D350P_DVD/display_~full_specs)

If you are wanting to get around copy protected tapes and discs, don't buy a combo unit, as I don't think there is a way to wire them up.

Well I read thru and Lets try another aproach.

Home movies, I do them, transfer them onto a dvd, same with jpeg flash viewer.

Some units will not do this, some will, meaning dvd+r or dvd-r,

Toshiba has only a few models out there that will play dvd+r but i think soon they will have more models out.

Not that I seen you asking anything other than that, So im confused on the other posts-

But I will answer that also -

combo units dvd-vcr, vcr can not record the dvd, and if it does, you likely to see black and white color intermentent.
