Hi,
Got a good deal on a new chandelier but the finish is well...ugly. It's painted a gold color with black "fly specking". The contrast between the two colors is way too high and lacks realism.
I'd like to re-do the finish in an antique bronze. The problem is that just painting with the metallic paints is unconvincing - objects lack highlights and are flat. So my plan would be to add glaze after spray painting with the bronze paint. I've never used glaze and the chandelier is very complicated. Should I use a brush to apply it and then use a rag to selectively wipe it off? The fly specking has a lot of texture so it may accentuate the effect of the glaze.
Any tips would be helpful. I understand they use this technique on the plaster statues.
