I've finished excavating the area in which I'm about to build a paver patio, and I'm ready to start laying down the base. I'm going to compact the bare dirt, put down landscaping fabric, and then my compacted gravel base. After getting the gravel in place and compacted, is there any benefit/harm to laying another layer of landscaping farbric on top of the gravel, before I put down my sand layer? It seems to me this would prevent any loss of sand, however minimal, into the gravel layer, while still allowing water to drain through.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

good question - i see no reason for it, as it it will have no benefit. if your base is what i have used (crusher run) the sand will not get mized into it becuase it set up like cement when packed and moistened (pack with a rental plate vibrator). i used sand for my most recent patio and hated working with it - i prefer "stone dust" as i have used in the past.

This weekend was spent shoveling endless tons of gravel and compacting it, and I see what you mean. I used a locally available 3/4 minus crushed granite preparation, and it packed so tight that I can't really imagine the sand on top going anywhere. Thanks for the reply!
