I have two cement columns that I want to paint. They have a seam running down the side are are pitted. What is the best product to use to fill the pits and seam? Obviously they will then need to be sanded and primed prior to painting. Thanks.

The typical way to fill and patch is with sand & cement in a process known as dry sacking. If you have a small amount to do, purchase ready made concrete patch in 5-25 pound box/bag (almost any where). Dry sacking is fast process and it's easy to learn.

Just enough water is mixed with the patching compound so that the mix holds together in a ball when squeezed in the hand (just past damp and crumbly). Dampen the repair area with a spray bottle (mist, do not flood). Pack the patch material into the holes, trowel with a small trowel (using moderately hard pressure). Directly afterward take some dry patch material and rub it over the repair, then trowel again, then "hit" the area with some burlap. On to the next repair. In a day or two you can sand the repaired areas.
