View Full Version : Schedule 40 Pipe Appearance
I just wanted to make sure that Schedule 40 pipe looks nice enough to use for residential chain link fence. I was told I need to use schedule 40 for what I'm doing and I was told that was more commonly used in commercial applications. Is it still shiny and nice looking like normal residential pipe?
I only asking because I see the heavier pipe used for like handrails around the city I work and things like that and it doesn't look as nice.

You dont say what are how you will use it for the fence. You might want to look into Sch 80 pvc and also dont for get outdoors that way go for the electric pvc it has a UV in it that you need outside that way in the sun.

Sorry I was referring to metal Schedule 40 Pipe. I'm using it for a 6' high chain link fence with privacy slats.

The "shine" you see on steel pipe is a shellac they put on to resist rust in storage. Most pipe is stored outside as the 20 foot lengths take up too much space inside. It will come off. If you use pipe, you will have to paint it or otherwise recoat it. You could use a galvanized paint. Good luck.
