I'm just trying a few things to get my a\c working. It works great for quite a while and then the outside unit stops and the house heats way up. Somtimes it will start up again after ten, twenty, thirty minutes sometimes not. My neighbor had a similar problem and the contractor removed the time delay. My question is if the thermostat has a time delay on it can I remove the one on the outside unit? If so do I just remove it or do some of the wires have to go to the contactor? If this doesn't help I'll replace the contactor and capacitor. After this I guess it's the Yellow Pages. Does anyone know where I might get parts in London Ontario? I haven't had much success? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the brand of the system.. YOu could remove the time delay.. Or turn off the time delay on the t-stat.

I would suggest you not waste your time and money on a fix untill you know what is wrong...... You are not working on your neighbours a/c.
You could throw enough parts at it to pay a qualified tech to diagnose the unit properly.

All I would suggest you do is check to see if the outdoor condenser coil is dirty and clean it if it is.
To diagnose this just hold the smaller line going into the house and it should be about 100 deg f or so. At 100 deg it would feel like the surrounding air temp.
To clean just turn off the power and use a garden hose on the coil with a stream spray.

Gee great advice from a do it yourself forum. Glad I didn't take it. I changed the thermostat and it's been running perfect for 2 days. Hopefully it's fixed. A service call here is almost $100 .
