I have a water filter, valve in head with cartridge.
I have tried removing the sump from the head with no luck. It seems to be stuck solid.
If anyone has any ideas how I could remove the sump I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

If you are referring to a filter with a spin on type filter housing, you MUST make sure that the pressure has been relieved from the system completely before you make any attempt at removing the filter housing. Otherwise your efforts will be in vain.
If the pressure is completely relieved, and you still cannot remove the housing by hand, try using an oil filter wrench. It works quite well, and is more practical than the dedicated piece of plastic called a 'wrench' you can buy specifically for the purpose for $8.
Eight Dollars for twelve cents worth of plastic is not a wise investment.
Once you get the housing off and change the filter element, lubricate the o-ring with some dielectric silicone to facilitate removal in the future, and only hand tighten- do not tighten with a wrench.
