Hi. I'm looking for opinions/advice for building our gate. We have a 16 ft wide driveway that we need to build a gate for. We're replacing our chain link fence w/a 4ft wood picket fence. We've kept the metal posts for the fence, but my husband seems to think that 2-8ft swinging gates would be too heavy and make the gate sag. He was planning on using a metal frame for it, but still thinks it would sag. Neither of us has ever seen a rolling wood fence, but ideally, that's what we would like to build.

Has anyone ever done it? How?? Or are we just better off going w/the 2 swinging gates? I've looked back a few pages and I saw that one of the moderators recommends putting casters at the end of the gate to prevent sagging, so we're considering that. Is that going to be our best option, or can someone point us in the right direction for building a rolling gate.

Thanks!

a rolling gate would be nice. different from everyone else. you dont see many wooden rolling gate. i think it would look nice. IMO. put it on a few rollers and a track on the adjacent (sp?) fence and make sure you have a good latch on the end. keep it simple for a clean look. good luck! :D :gmorning:
