Hi, the floor on our porch is made of tongue and groove wood with angled edges. Therefore, there is no gap between each piece of wood. In addition, unlike the porches of the past, this floor does not have a pitch. It lies flat. When it snows or rains or when I wash the porch, water sits on the floor and on the valley created by the angled edges. I have to use a broom to sweep the water off. Even then, not all the water comes off. I have to admit, I don't sweep the water when it rains or snows. But, I do sweep the water after I wash the porch. I am concern that the water will rot the wood especially where the porch meets the house. What is the best way to prevent this from happening? We were thinking we should drill holes into the porch floor so that there is a place for the water to go. But, there is no pitch to help the water drain. Is this something I should be concern about? My house was built in 1998. We live in the NJ. Thank you.
