Fencing permission

Can anyone answer this question? do you need the permission, of your neighbour
to put up a 2m fence in your back garden, because from what I gathered was that as long as your fence was. within the legal hight restrictions of 6" 7 which is 2m you didn't need any permission.

Local codes tend to vary from area to area and within areas if you live in a neighborhood that is governed by a Homeowner's Association or covenants. Codes and/or covenants tend to dictate not only height of fence but placement, type of fencing, and any allowances for space at property line.
