Hello,

I have a packaged 1.5-2.0 ton 8 SEER Magic Chef HP that is at the end of life. It is about 45 cubic inch unit that rests on a shelf attached to what looks like a window frame inside a small closet. The upper pane contains a fan and the lower pane is the outside coil. I live in a condo and can't alter the outside appearance.

It is running short and freezing right now.

I was Quoted $7,000.00 to remove and replace the unit with a 12 SEER XENON HP. I feel the cost is a little high and I am looking for a better price but I am running out of options. Please Help!! TIA

Specialty units can get pricey. Your best bet is to call around and get several quotes.

That's not what I wanted to hear. But I guess that's my only choice.

I only get 1 out of 10 that will even come out to quote the job and when they see it and can do it only 1 company so far has actually given me a quote.

Makes me want to fix an 8 seer system instead of replacing it with a 17 seer.
