What do you recommend to cap the severed tube tip of caulking? It seems whatever I use, the caulking dries up in the tip, ruining the whole tube. I think Dap once had a threaded tip base that you could remove & replace w/ a small threaded cap they provided, but they realized that they were selling less caulk b/c the system helped preserve partial tubes.

I usually insert a nail or screw into the tip to help preserve it. Remember once the tube is opened no matter how well you seal it, it won'r keep for ever.

Same here for the screw. I found some stainless-looking drywall screws that work well.

I ran across these at an ACE hardware about a year ago and have been using them ever since. Haven't had a tube dry out on me yet. They can be kinda hard to find as not everyone carries them.

duct tape works great - in fact when I open a tupe, I alway wrap some tape around the tube so it's there when I need it - just rip a piece off and wrap the tip - I used to use the screw but this has worked better - less mess - and tubes seem to last a while

Guys, thanks for all of your replies. I may check to see if my local ACE Hdw store carries those little red caps.
