Hello, getting ready to paint the exterior of my house. It's wood siding, originally smooth, but is now a bit on the rough side. I will scrape some of the roughness, but if the paint is in good condition I don't want to expend the extra effort to make it perfect.

What sheen of paint should I use for the siding and trim? I know gloss will highlight the roughness, but will stay cleaner (??)

Flat would get dirty too quickly (??)

You are correct in that the more gloss the more it will highlight any defects. Unless the siding is apt to get handprints or other direct contract it shouldn't get any dirtier no matter what sheen you use. Satin has a low gloss and may be what you are looking for. I would probably put flat on the siding and satin on the trim. Hope this helps you decide :)
