I recently tore down a rotting deck not made of pt wood. The joists and supports are good so I have everything framed. I want to use composite decking this time but can't find any step by step guides. Any advice?

The www.trex.com has some very good installation instructions
They are in PDF format and very easy to print out

Well you need to weigh a few things before you start this project.

1. Old framing. Composites will last longer then new PT, let alone old.

2. Do you have a manufacturer of composite decking you already like? Most have a web site and installation instructions.

sanleg,

Let me put what hellrazor said another way.

Why put 20 or 30 year decking on a frame that might only last another 5 or 10 years?

If the concrete footings are done properly, use them. (Otherwise, install new, PROPER ONES.) From there, replace everything.

Working with a composite, (vs. wood) isn't difficult. There are SOME differences, but that is mostly how far the composite will span, and making sure that the ends of each deck board are properly supported so they don't droop. Wood can be used for the structure, composites can't. And face screw the deck boards with good screws (Deck Mate, Trap Eze, etc.)
