I am installing some oak stair threads, 1/2" Oak + 3/4" plywood + 1/4" Maple plywood on a spiral stair case. The Maple will show from the bottom and is about a light in color as the flooring.
The stairs will be covered with clear no gloss polyurathane. The client is asking about sand in the finish to prevent slippage.
Is there a special sand for this application?

I believe that a product known as Perlite would work. It's usually mixed in with paint. I'm not sure if it's white color would be a problem with clear finish or notm since I've only mixed it with paint. I'll have to look at the instructions on the bag when I go back to work.
You could always search for "sand texture" and "varnish" or "polyurethane" on the net.
