Does anyone have any idea why my the area around my tub overflow area keeps turning black? About a year ago, the main trap in the house was replaced. The staining started after the replacement. I have poured bleach and hot water down the overflow drain and that seems to slow the staining. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like a rusting overplate screw or deteriorating rubber overflow gasket.
Take the assembly apart, replace screws, cover plate, rubber gasket. The staining is not connected to anything else in the plumbing system.
