I own a 17.5HP Yard Machine, and recently we've been having problems. The mower stalls when engaging the cutting deck. When I attempt to restart the mower, there's no response. When I turn the key, there's no click, no turning of the engine, it's total silence. It seems as though there may be an electronic problem, regarding safe-guards, but why would the mower stall so easily? If you have any questions or need more information, I'll be watching this thread. I really appreciate any help you guys may be able to give me.

Just briefly,,, you do have the deck disengaged while turning the key, right?

I'm pleased to say that I -do- have the deck disengaged. It has only been a recent problem, as I stated before. I'm at a loss for ideas.

Sounds like the safety switch on the deck. First check the wires and connections. If they are all good, then the safety switch itself could be bad or there could be a problem with the ignition switch. To check the switch on the deck, could could either unplug the switch or use a wire to cross the two terminals (the reason I gave to ways to check it is because some safety switches complete the circuit and some open it, so I don't know how this particular one works)
