Hi,

I installed a NEW 40 GAL. GE water heater today and it is leaking at both hot and cold fittings. Not at the connections, but coming up from the tank it self, a little trickle. Is it possible that the fittings installed at the factory were loose and allowing water to leak out. I replaced the previous water heater 13 years ago without a problem. Is it me or the heater?

Those fittings are welded to the tank so there is little chance of a leak. Let alone at both of them. What thread sealer did you use on your inlet and outlet connections? Anything is possible but before you you take it apart, inspect every fitting with a flashlight and after drying them off, watch for the exact source of the water. It may be creeping from somewhere you are not seeing.

GE heaters come with dielectric nipples already screwed into the top of your tank. Remove these and reseal the threads with some good compound sealer. It is also possible the anode is leaking.

Look at the Teflon Tape at the joint. If it is a different color than originally, you got a slow leak past the Teflon.
