hi all,

i have friends that are in the process of buying a house with hardwood throughout, which is important to them. the stairs are hardwood as well, and they don't want to ruin them, but need to put a runner over them since they have a two year old that LOVES to wander up and down stairs. it just wouldn't be safe to have thme unpadded. until he's a bit older.

i'm hoping i can help them find a way to install a runner temporarily without tacking it in and ruining the stairs. any help would be greatly appreciated, as a workable solution on my part would more than likely lead to free beer.

thanks.

You going to have to fasten it somehow.

Tack it

Tackstrip

Stair rods

And I have seen velcro, but the adhesive (that didn't stick) did a number on the finish.

will stair rods work with no other fastener? those are spring-loaded rods, sort of like little shower curtains, right?

tack strips are totally out of the question.... will double-sided carpet tape ruin the finish?

i guess messing up the finish a little would be preferable to pounding holes in them - they can always be refinished.

Holes can be simply filled with color matching filler, and only you will know they are there.

Any adhesive is going to effect the finish.

There are mounting screws for stair rods.
