I have a 96" wide X 63" tall window that I need to cover. Ideally, I want to be able to have the window uncovered during the day for light (and cat entertainment) and easily close whatever at night for privacy.
I thought vertical blinds would be easy, but I am truly sick of them. So I was looking at some pinch pleat draperies and am confused with traverse rods/decorative traverse rods. I assume I would need a valence too?
I have zero knowledge of these things. Any advice is appreciated, or other ideas. I'm not completely sold on the look of pinch pleated drapes either.
Thanks!

is it one huge pane of glass, or is it broken up into several smaller windows? if the latter, you could do just about any type of blind, like 2" wood blinds or shade, like romans.

if you don't like pinch pleats, or if you don't want a valance, don't choose them! instead, for a lighter & more casual look, go with a decorative rod, iron or wood, with interesting finials and use simple drapery panels hung from rings with clips (like this (http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25437&CatID=28493&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=0cd2b38&ProdSeq=16&Cat=solid&Dep=Window&PCat=casual&PCatID=28492&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=36&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0) ). the panels will slide easily using the rings and will give you privacy at night, but can be opened completely during the day and will frame the window nicely. you could go with tab tops or tie tops or just gathered, but they won't slide as easily.

finding them wide enough for a 96" wide window might be difficult though. you may have to have them made or sew 2 panels together for each side.

if you truly have "zero knowledge" about window treatments, wait til you've seen what all is out there before you decide. do a search for "window treatments" or "draperies" or go to all your favorite stores that have websites & see what's available. some good ones for ideas are jcpenney.com, thecompanystore.com, brylanehome.com, domestications.com, potterybarn.com, countrycurtains.com, bedbathandbeyond.com, etc.
