Blinds, Shades and Shutters - Using Verticle Blinds as a Room Divider

I'd like to install vertical blinds as a room divider. They would need to be mounted to the ceiling because the blinds don't stretch all the way across the room.

One problem I can think of might be that when I tried to put hang a canopy in another room, the screw kept coming out the ceiling.

Any thoughts on this - problems, suggestions, etc?

Best option is to find the ceiling joists and use screws to attach the track to the joists.

If you can't locate the joists or the joists are in the wrong spot, you'll need to use big molleys.

If you can't locate the ceiling joists.....use toggle bolts.

My .02 is that vertical blinds are really prone to moving around with the wind. So if you've got them hanging in the center of a room, then every time you walk past them they'll shake & move (a LOT) and potentially make lots of noise.

Another idea? When I was a teenager, my parents let me move to the finished basement of our house. They added a bathroom for me, and then (because the half-basement was REALLY big) we hung a bamboo shade (I'm guessing it was 6 feet wide) to divide the room into a bedroom/living room. It was terrific! It was like having my own apartment. You can get those shades pretty inexpensively...at places like Target, or Pier 1 Imports (theirs can vary in price quite dramatically, but are sometimes quite reasonable).

They also have those same style shades in metal, or plastic. And some places like Lowes or Home Depot will cut to length.
