I need to replace a ceiling fan with a pendant light which is wired for an outlet not to be hardwired. What steps do I need to take? And what supplies should I buy?

My recommendation would be to replace the ceiling fan with an outlet, hang the pendant light nearby, and plug it into the ceiling receptacle. Anything else is going to be a lot more work.
